Is this what the fundies think we do when we’re role-playing?

Religious Tract excerpt

BUAHA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

*gasp*

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Whew. Wow, there just aren’t words to describe that kind of stupidity. Well, other than…

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Picture this one:

My husband and were I goofing around on our respective instruments last night. He was playing Beatles on the bass guitar, while I banged on my djembe.

Not dichotomous enough for you? Wait, it gets better.

By the end of the night, I was playing beledi. On the djembe. While he played Bungalow Bill on the bass.

Never let it be said that I am bound by tradition.

Last year I made a post gushing about how much I liked my little planner.

Weekly planner pages

It was a nice little planner, but it had one major drawback—the calendar. I use the two-page-per-week format, so I can see a whole week at a time. However, these calendars are designed for 9-to-5 weekday people. The calendar weekdays start at eight, end at six. The weekends are squeezed in as an afterthought.

I’m not a 9-to-5 weekday person. A lot of what I need to keep track of happens in the evenings and on weekends. I found the perfect format on Day-Timer’s web site, advertised as “for real estate agents.” I guess they, too, have to keep track of things that happen on evenings and weekends. I love this format. The days start at seven and end at nine, and the weekends get just as much space as the weekdays. It’s perfect.

But they don’t make it for my planner size.

Apparently all real estate agents use the Desktop size, which is 5.5″ x 8.5″. My beloved little planner is a Portable, which is 3.75″ x 6.75″.

Real estate agent planner pages

I liked the format so much I got a Desktop-sized planner. I moved all my info onto desktop-size pages. I started using it in January. I really do like the format.

But I don’t like the size. It’s heavy to carry around, it doesn’t fit easily into my purse, and it’s awkward to try and hold it in one hand while looking over my schedule. What I really wanted was the real estate format, for the portable planner.

So dammit, I made one. I spent the last few days working in a draw program and put that format into two PDF files (front and back pages) that can be printed out and trimmed to fit a portable planner. Last night I moved all my info back to the portable size pages. Now I have my little planner again.

My Planner

I’m way too excited about being reunited with my planner. I dance around the living room with my planner while “Shiny Happy People” plays in the background. I gleefully page through my little planner, congratulating myself on my custom-made calendar.

I show it to everyone. As with my cross-stitch and other needlecraft, they try to feign interest because they see how excited I am about it.

And somewhere, somewhere out there is another person who has been wanting this format for a portable-sized planner. I should put my PDF files up on my blog for them to download, just so my efforts aren’t solely for my benefit.

Now I’m going to go dance around with my planner some more.

Edit: I did put them up for download. Also put them up on diyplanner.com. So to that one other person in the world who’s been looking for planner pages like this, here they are.

The recent qualifer meet for the Special Olympics swim team was held at the Triangle Sportsplex. Out in front of the building they have a small pond, with a number of ducks and geese.

Needless to say these birds are nearly tame, and quite fat.

A couple of the geese we fed

During a long pause between races, my younger son and I wandered out to feed the critters. There was one big black duck that rather resembled a turkey, who trundled along beside my son quacking contentedly. He was obviously an old hand at this; he caught the chunks of bread in the air as they were thrown to him.

Presently the Canada geese noticed what was going on and strolled over to get their cut. I’ve never been that close to a Canada goose in my life. The biggest one stationed himself a foot away from me so that I could just drop the bread directly into his bill.

I remembered my new cell phone has a camera in it, and snapped a picture of a pair that appeared to be a mated couple. One of them is just wandering out of the frame; right after I took the picture the other one followed to stay close.

I know I’m easily entertained. I just got a real kick out of having a bunch of (technically) wild geese milling around at arm’s length.

Hi, Bingo!

I have had dreams like this, I shit you not.

When I finished my test and went to hand it to him, he motioned me in closer and told me to look at the first page.

In this class, the first page is always a signature line, followed by standard blahblah about how we swear we didn’t cheat, if we’re using scantron we have to fill in the circles, etc.

The instructor said, “Look at that sentence.”

“However, you only have to do Problem Number 22 on this test.”

Nobody picked up on that,” he grinned wickedly.

“You’re evil,” I told him.

AAAHHHH

We’re on the final week of classes. Every day has tests and/or projects due. If you see someone walking around with little cartoon angst lines emanating from her head, that would be me.

My drum instructor is teaching us a rhythm in 3/4 time. I don’t know if it’s the workload from school or just general ineptitude, but I can’t seem to get that mother down. Perhaps it’s just the fact that I haven’t had time to practice the damn thing this week.

My eldest just returned from the qualifier meet for the state Special Olympic games. He was tearing up the lanes; he came in first in all the heats he swam by himself. He swam the 100 meter backstroke in under two minutes.

By the time he swam the 200 meter freestyle he was tiring, but he was still going strong. He lapped two of the other swimmers in the heat. When they got to the end of their third lap they saw my kid climbing out of the pool, thought they were done, and started to get out as well. The coaches quickly turned them around to do their fourth lap.

I’m pretty sure he qualified.
