WOOT NEW JOB

Finally got a job offer! A local recruiter got me in with a big company, where I’ll get to play with spreadsheets and learn to use Oracle. It’s a three-month contract to start, but so far everyone they’ve gotten into this place has had their contract extended. And at some point in the future they’ll be done with their big restructuring, at which point they’ll either hire me on as an employee, or I’ll go find something else—and I’ll be able to say I’m familiar with Oracle, which should make me fairly marketable.

Next week they’re doing the background check and presumably calling my references. I’ll have to talk to my co-workers who said I could use them as references, since that was a year ago. After I clear the background check I’ll tell the boss and put in my two weeks’ notice. I hate to ruin his day, but I’m glad to be getting out before we don’t make payroll. Seems like every payroll cycle we get closer to that point, and somehow manage to scrape by.

So, some time around the third week of July, I will be in a new job!

South Korea: Kim Jong Un executed his defense minister! With anti-aircraft guns!

World At Large: OMGWTFBBQ!!!1

SK: LOL j/k

World: ಠ_ಠ

Ever since I heard about them blasting K-Pop across the DMZ to torture North Korea, I’ve suspected SK really enjoyed a good troll.

Last night we had some major thunderstorms roll through. The Director and I spent most of the evening in the living room with the lights off and the blinds open, watching the torrential rain and near-continuous lightning.

Alpha Geek was in a restaurant at a nearby shopping mall, waiting for the storm to abate so he could come home. He passed the time occasionally texting us about conditions at his location, and we’d answer things were pretty much the same at the house. Eventually the storm passed and he was able to leave.

This morning I turned on the news, and saw that a man had been struck by lightning last night at the same shopping mall, trying to cross the parking lot. (He did not survive.)

Damn, Nature, you scary.
