This morning I was hobbling worse than ever, and couldn’t even straighten up. I managed to get an appointment with my excellent chiropractor this afternoon, though. He said I’ve sprained my something-something ligament, one of the ones in my hip, and he manipulated and adjusted and I feel much better. I can stand up straight now, and rather than a constant stabbing pain throughout my lower back, I now have a constant throbbing just over my left hipbone.

The Boss decided he didn’t feel confident with the lady he had hired to keep the books for his new company, so now he’s put me in charge of the A/R and billing and one of our payroll girls is doing their payroll. Monday and Tuesday I was sitting in while the other lady got training, but today she was gone and I was getting the training. Around two o’clock we checked in with The Boss, and he was tickled to hear I was picking it up quickly. I’ll do my best not to disappoint.

So now I’m doing my job, learning to do the new job, and helping to train our newest employee in some of my current duties so she can pick up some of the work I do while I’m over there working on the other company. It’s a little bit hectic this week.

There Was a Crooked Man

Or, in this case, a crooked woman. I don’t know what I’ve done to myself—I was fine Saturday, but Sunday my back hurt, and as the day progressed the pain got worse until I was hobbling around and gasping and groaning whenever I had to stand up, or sit down, or change position. I guess I slept in a corkscrew, or something.

I hoped it would be better this morning, but alas. I hobbled in to work like an old crippled thing.

On the way home, I stopped by the grocery store and purchased:

  1. some ibuprofen
  2. a box of Icy Hot pads
  3. a bottle of Shiraz

One way or another I’m going to feel better tonight.

Foiling Scammers

I think I saved my boss from a scammer yesterday.

I’ve kind of become the unofficial tech person in the office. (I’m not sure how this happened; most of the time they figure out the problem themselves while I’m there.)

So yesterday, my boss was walking by and handed me his cell phone, saying “See if you can figure out what she’s talking about.”

On the other end was a lady with an Indian accent telling me my computer was sending some kind of tech-sounding thing to their servers, and she was going to tell me how to remove the virus.
At first I thought she meant his computer had picked up a zombie virus and was spamming people, so I said we’d call our IT guy—and she said “No, no one else can fix this, you need to go to our website.”

I basically told her it was our IT guy or nothing, and she hung up.

Then I did a search on the company she said she was from… “Windows Computer Services.” Scam city.

I relayed the info to my boss and went back to work. Stupid scammers wasting everybody’s time.
