Last week, Alpha Geek’s sister came to town with her family. The Artist was out of town, but the Director greatly enjoyed playing with his cousins. He’s older than they are, so he got to see what it’s like to be a “big brother” kind of figure. He had a blast.

For the last year or so, the Director’s favorite word has been “derp.” It’s his all-around, go-to word to describe absurdity, foolishness, or general lack of purpose. He particularly likes to use it as a verb, as in “I’m going to derp around outside.” (For those unfamiliar with the term, it is a shortened form of “hurp derp,” from an internet meme to indicate someone being an idiot.)

By the time sister-in-law’s family left, all of his cousins were also routinely using “derp” in their conversation.
